Write! App is the simplest, most user-friendly writing app you will find out there. In short, Write! App is an app for writers.
Its main benefit is distraction-free writing. And it does that extremely well.
But you also get a ton of additional features, including different color schemes, hotkeys to speed up your writing, spell check in a bunch of languages, and even autocomplete.
However, does that mean it’s worth shelling out your hard-earned dough?

Write! App Pros
Write! App does an excellent job providing a clutter-free interface to help you focus on what’s important: writing.
As you type the words, it syncs all the data in the cloud so you can access your file on any computer whenever, wherever you want it.
It’s also a breeze to share your writing with others and get their feedback without leaving the app.
Now, let me tell you one by one that impressed me the most about this software.
1. Distraction-free writing
Write! App prides itself on being the best distraction-free writing app. It enables any skilled writer to develop new ideas, write new content or text on the go and provides a one-of-a-kind writing experience.
After purchasing and using it for a few days, we can definitely confirm they’re at or near the top.
You get not one, but two solutions to rid yourself of any interruption while working.
The first is “Full-Screen Mode.” As the name says, when full-screen mode is on, all you see on your screen is a blank sheet and your words. That’s it.
It hides all the functions and tabs so that it’s just you and your words.
The second solution is to turn on “Focus Mode.”
The sole purpose of Focus Mode is to help you keep focused on the present sentence or paragraph that you’re writing or editing. It grays out all the other words in your doc.
If you want, you can even tag-team both settings for a better writing and editing experience.
2. Multilingual spell checker (35 languages)
Misspell a word in Write! App and it’ll immediately flag it for you, along with providing a few helpful recommendations.
The best part, though, is that it comes fully-loaded with 35 different languages, including multiple versions of some depending on the locale. For example, there’s a Portuguese for Portugal and another for Brazil.
3. Cloud synchronization
Write! App offers you the power to back up all your documents in the cloud storage without imposing any limit on the number of files you can store.
And the best part is you don’t need any third-party app like a Dropbox or Google Drive.
Write from your desktop and files will automatically back up all of the files you’re writing on your computer to a single online folder.
4. Fast, easy organization
This might sound dumb. But I feel like I can write faster with Write! App.
For starters, there’s a really simple tab system that you can use for new, related documents. Then, you can organize these into “Sessions” on the right-hand side of the toolbar.
Now, if you’re working on multiple docs at one time, you can quickly jump back and forth without having to go searching for stuff.
Write! App also has collapsible headers. I found this helpful when working on one, in-depth piece because you can close all of the other major sections and focus only on the one you’re currently writing.
Just click on the small circles next to each header to toggle them open or closed.
If you highlight a section of text and right-click, you can also bring up the formatting options. This includes everything from headers, to bulleted lists, a variety of colors, and even the ability to research that string of text.
5. Write faster with auto-complete
Another reason it seems like you can write faster on Write! App is because of the unique auto-complete feature.
This works just like when you’re texting on a phone. Start typing in the first few letters of a word and it will automatically recommend the most likely word you’re about to use — so you can just hit “Enter’ on your keyboard and automatically complete it.
You can also change the settings for this, depending on how many symbols to type before it starts suggesting alternatives.
6. One-time lifetime license
There are no monthly charges with Write! App.
Instead, it’s a simple one-time purchase of $24.95 for the rest of your life. The only other charges are a small annual fee for cloud storage (more on that below).
7. Document statistics
Each tabbed document on Write! App contains its own Document Statistics. This will help you keep track of daily progress, as well as any overall writing goals like hitting a certain word count before you can stop working. Stats can help you draft your writing to-do-lists and increase your workflow.
8. Available on Mac, Windows, and Linux
Write! App is primarily a desktop-based writing app. So they have downloadable apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
9. Share files with others
Now, even though Write! App is primarily desktop-based, you can still publish docs online through their cloud software and get a public URL for each document.
This way, you can share the link through email to friends or colleagues and get their feedback while it’s still a work in progress.
The only drawback, however, is that there are no real-time collaboration features for anyone else to work on the same doc at the same time.
10. More than a dozen writing templates
The hardest part of writing is starting. No matter how hard you try, your brain fails to spit out words.
Now, imagine how cool it would be to have a pre-designed template to get some ideas and start to get going instantly?
Very cool, right! Well, Write! App fulfills this wish by offering 15 different writing samples to users that they (users) can use for various writing projects like a blog post or resume or a novel, etc.
11. Note-taking made easy
Taking notes on Write! App (even while writing) is a breeze. All you’re required to do is hit “Alt +” to move the tabs aside and then, start jotting down your notes. That’s it.
It’s convenient when you’re working on an essay or short story or a blog post, and you suddenly need to note down some quick facts or research points.
Write! App Cons
Sure, Write! App is a top-quality word processor that checks most of the boxes. But there are a few sections where there is plenty of room for improvement.
1. No mobile app
Write! App is only available as a desktop app. No online, web-based version. And no mobile app support. There’s no information regarding mobile app development.
2. Limited export options
Write! App does an excellent job at helping you write and save your thoughts.
You can then export those documents into other file formats, including, PDF, plain text, and Markdown content.
It was a disappointment not to find other popular formats like Word, RTF, or more importantly, WordPress.
If you are on the market for an app that allows you to export from Google Docs to WordPress in 1-click, then we recommend checking out Wordable. It will not only clean and properly format your HTML, but also compress images, open links in a new tab, automatically set featured images, or create a table of contents, and lots more.
3. No revision history
Write! App syncs your documents, along with any changes you make on those docs, to the cloud.
However, there’s no way to actually pull up revisions that have been saved over.
Sure, you can use ‘Ctrl+Z’ to undo some recent changes, but there’s a certain limit for that, too.
Not having this feature might make it tough for writers who work on large projects like books, novels, screenplays, or long blog posts.
So it’s probably better suited to a lot of smaller, one-off writing projects.
Otherwise, I’d recommend a workaround where you treat “Sessions” as one major document or chapter. Then, you can use the different tabbed documents within each Session to be your revisions (i.e. outline, draft one, draft two, etc.).
It’s not perfect, but it might do the trick.
4. No free trial
Many of the other writing apps we’ve reviewed have either a free version or free trial.
Write! App has neither.
It’s not super expensive (more on that in a second). And they do have a 7-day money-back guarantee.
But it’s a bummer nonetheless.
Write! App pricing plans and payment options
Just like its user interface, Write! App pricing is pretty straightforward, too.
There aren’t any complicated plans to sift through.
There’s just a simple, one-time fee for a lifetime license.
The price for regular users is $24.95, while students can get a massive 60% discount to pick up the tool for only $9.95.
But bear in mind, after the first year of purchase, Write! App will charge you $4.95/year for cloud access.
You can pay either with your debit or credit card, Wire Transfer, Amazon Pay, or PayPal.
We went ahead and purchased a full, lifetime license and are very happy so far:
Do I recommend Write! App?
Yes, I do. Write! App does exactly what it says. t’s a great writing tool for checking any blog posts or short text and overall it’s a great app for someone who writes casually.
It has an excellent distraction-free editor with multiple ways to block interruptions.
You get the best aspects of a desktop app. Writing is fast with zero lags, it works anywhere without an Internet connection, and there are tons of hotkey shortcuts so you can control almost any feature with your keyboard.
But it will also sync your docs automatically in the cloud, too. So you can share those with people to get feedback.
The spell checker, auto-complete, and organization are all added bonuses.
All of this and you only have to pay a one-time fee for lifetime access (plus the small annual cloud fee). It’s well worth it in my book.
