Reverso is best known for being an online translation service featuring dictionary and pronunciation aids. The company also offers language services such as spelling and grammar checking tools. It’s easy to improve sentences, grammar and word choice with Reverso.
The service is free and is “mostly financed by advertising,” according to their “About Me” page. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on how accurate it is and if it skimps on features like multilingual support or a plagiarism checker.
At our content marketing agency, we review and compare the best writing apps and MasterClass classes so that you don’t have to.
We’ve tried out the Reverso grammar check feature — researched synonyms, antonyms, and discovered the free online thesaurus as well as spell checker. By adding some text to the grammar checker, we found out Reverso’s top features.
First, let’s start with what we like about Reverso.

Reverso Pros
1. Straightforward Interface
Reverso’s interface gets straight to the point. Just enter your text and press “check” to begin analyzing your writing. Checking your sentences is easy with the interface. Indeed, Reverso is one of the best spell checkers out there.

Any detected errors will become highlighted. Once you click on a word or group of words or sentences, you’ll be able to view and select suggestions for a replacement.
2. It’s Relatively Accurate
Reverso is a consistent online grammar checker that identifies spelling mistakes, punctuation or grammatical errors, improve your text, and more with ease. It’s like a one-of-a-kind online dictionary that corrects grammar mistakes and misspelled words. To improve any vocabulary, Reverso is a great online tool.

If you need to check online comma use, hyphens, parts of speech, or words that are spelled correctly but not used correctly, Reverso has got your back. Reverso can improve your word list or phrases efficiently as well as correct the passive voice use. Any word you use (and spelling) gets improved with Reverso spell checker.
Unlike some other free online grammar checkers, Reverso caught incorrect uses of “your” right off the bat. Therefore, improving your sentences is eased.

3. Grammar Rules Backed by Translation Service
Grammar rules used to check text seem to be backed by Reverso-Softissimo, a language software powerhouse that designs, publishes, and integrates their work across the market.
Reverso says: “[The grammar checker] makes use of the best technologies developed by Ginger Software with an interface, settings and complementary processing specifically devised by Reverso-Softissimo for the Reverso website and the Reverso Intranet products.”
For grammar and spelling mistakes, Reverso is convenient. You can free yourself from spelling errors with Reverso. Improve your texts easily with Reverso.
4. Browser Extension Available
This grammar checker can be used via a mobile browser, web browser, or Google Chrome browser extension making it a perfect online tool.
To access the browser extension, click the “Add Reverso to Chrome” button under the “Join Reverso” dropdown menu.

You’ll be taken to the Chrome web store, where you can simply click “Add to Chrome” to get started.
With the extension, you can view your translation search history and save your favorite translations to reference later.

5. Thesaurus
Whether you are looking for synonyms and antonyms to improve your sentences, Reverso is useful.
Reverso’s online thesaurus is complete. It provides a great list of synonyms and features also thesaurus antonyms.
6. Multilingual Service (12 Languages)

Reverso Cons
There are a few cons to this checker, though.
1. Misses the Mark on Concision
It’s true that Reverso caught obvious grammar issues, like incorrect uses of “your.”
However, it doesn’t catch more subtle issues like passive voice, redundant words, etc. It missed several obvious cases of it, so it’s obviously just a basic option. (See what I did there?)
Learner’s dictionary
2. No Plagiarism Checker
Reverso does not come with a plagiarism checker. So it might be fine for checking simple grammar issues, but it won’t help you become a better writer or double-check documents for copied passages and other issues that might land you in hot water.
3. Strict Limitations
Reverso can only check 600 characters at a time, making it a pretty limited service.

If you need to check a large chunk of text at one time, skip out on this tool. It’s best to use small bits of text to enjoy Reverso.
4. No Reporting/Human Review
Users of this checker have no way to export their reports to referring to them later, and human reviews aren’t available, either.
This isn’t surprising, given that this tool is completely free.
5. Customer Service Needs Improvement
The only form of customer service on the Reverso site is a contact form.
Users have to choose the type of request and enter their name, email, country, company, position, phone number, and feedback or request, so it’s a fairly extensive process.

We tested out the form to see how the quality and speed of Reverso’s customer service was, but we never heard back from the team.
Reverso Costs
Reverso is completely free.
But there are a few small perks of signing up for a free account with the service, such as the ability to keep track of your last searches.

If you plan to use this tool on a regular basis, it’s worth it to quickly create an account to keep track of your activity.
Do I Recommend Reverso?
Not really.
It’s not terrible. But it’s really only good for small amounts of text, like emails.
Due to the limitations of this service, it wouldn’t be worth it to try and check an entire article or academic paper with this tool.
If you need a sophisticated, easy to use grammar checker software that is multilingual to check a few small bits of writing here and there, this one is worth a try.
Otherwise, I’d recommend checking out a better all-around option like Grammarly or ProWritingAid to check your text.
